Yes, we do! Pumps can be included as an add-on to your purchase for an additional fee.
That entirely depends on the dose you are feeding. A 3.78L container will last 126 days for the average horse on or 30ml/day. A 3.78L container will last the average horse 63 days on a 60ml daily dose. Larger doses will mean your container lasts less time for you. Often horses can have their dose reduced once you achieve the results your after to a maintenance level.
Smart Earth Camelina Oil is approved by Health Canada as an LRVP - a Low Risk Veterinary Supplement for horses and dogs. Health Canada has labeling guidelines for these products and we are required to comply, even though our camelina oil is considered a LOW RISK product.
Despite the fact that there is no evidence camelina oil creates harm or risk to lactating mares or horses with bleeding issues, because there are no long term, documented, studies to the contrary, these risk statements are mandatory.
There has not been any clinical research on horses fed camelina oil, to our knowledge. However, there are many articles on the health benefits of alpha-linolenic and other polyunsaturated fatty acids in both animals and humans. We do have a research summary of the apparent benefits of adding Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids of the type found in Camelina to the diet of horses. We can send you this research sample on request.
You absolutely can feed Camelina oil without contributing to weight gain. We would suggest feeding your horse 30mls/day initially and increase/decrease the dosage based on your results.
We have had many customers who have had great success feeding Smart Earth to horses with Cushings disease. If you are concerned we do advise our customers to consult with their vet before starting supplementation with Camelina Oil.
Smart Earth Camelina Oil is laminitis and founder safe. We have a client who swears the only reason her horse survived a founder was because of the oil. It is a safe fat supplement for them and will help reduce inflammation as it’s a natural anti inflammatory.
While we cannot guarantee our product will make your horse sound again - it is a natural anti-inflammatory. Many of our clients have seen great success after feeding the product to arthritic horses. We have many regular customers who feed Camelina because of the clearly visible changes in their horses’ mobility.
We strongly encourage our clients to consult with their veterinarian if they suspect their horse has a metabolic condition. Our product is safe to feed to horses with metabolic conditions and has been a great help for many horses suffering with various metabolic problems.
We have received testimonials from clients who report improvement in horses suffering from severe sweet itch. For example: "My mare is no longer rubbing and biting her body raw since starting the oil." There is one Canadian research study showing that Omega3 fatty acids of the type found in Camelina reduces skin irritations in horses without side effects.
Our product is absolutely safe for miniature horses. Because they are obviously a lot smaller than what our standard dose is meant to feed we suggest 15ml’s total per day. You can adjust your dosage as you see fit to get the results you are looking for.
We suggest using a very small amount of oil the first time and slowly increase the amount. Make sure it’s evenly dispersed across his feed. You could also try soaking it. If you have any problems with those methods let us know and we can offer some more suggestions.
Camelina oil is high in ALA with a 1.6:1 - 1.8:1 ratio of omega 3s to omega 6s.
The oil is fine to consume after 2 years at 20C (70F) if unopened and stored in the dark, but not as fresh as it could be. It depends on whether it has been exposed to air and light too. As a general rule we say our oil is fine after 1 year if opened and at room temperature not kept in the dark. The peroxide value is an indication of oxidation stability. Our oil must have a pv of less than 5 when freshly crushed. This value increases as it oxidizes. A pv of >20 is not recommended. We consider long term storage is 2 years at 5C (40F) but at least 5 years if kept frozen. Hope this helps.
Yes. Dogs love it! Dog dose: 5 mL (1 teaspoon) per 25 lb body weight) once daily. Cats - just a drizzle on their food.
Our non-GMO cold-pressed Camelina oil is Health Canada approved as a veterinary supplement for horses and for dogs. As a high omega oil it is processed in a food-grade facility and it has been sold to other buyers for human consumption. But we presently are not marketing it as such or selling it in the retail grocery store.
Ever since reading about your product on Facebook I’ve been so happy with it and it stands up to what it says it’s supposed to do. I have a Dutch Warmblood that I bought when he was five and he’ll be 21 in June. He’s pretty retired now and just happy to run round a bit and go on beautiful trails where we live in the Santa Ynez Valley. I tried the oil because I couldn’t keep weight on him and he has a bit of navicular. We just went to the vet the other day and he’s gained 40 pounds! With all the rain we’ve had he developed a little bit of pneumonia so I’ve had him on antibiotics and thank goodness for your oil because it’s a wonderful camouflage for that yucky taste . I’ll try to forward a video of Vinny and his little companion, my miniature horse Stat running around the arena. It’s super cute! thank you for your product and the added bonus is that my husband is from Montreal so it’s nice to support Canada.
My two geldings LOVE this oil. Or cats lap it up as well. Thinking of taking it myself! LOL
My gelding is 26 years old. He just started showing signs of aging last year and started dropping weight fast. He gets 4 oz of a Camelina Oil everyday and is looking great. From the way he kicks and runs in the pasture I would say he’s feeling great too.
I give Camelina oil to my horse and four dogs. I have been using for over a year. It really helps with their mobility. I believe in it very much:=)
I ordered it to see if its would help my rescue horses. I have a 15ish Belgian mare that was about 500lbs under weight. And my heart horse is a Mustang Arab mare is turning 30. My trimmer did a dance when he came to work on their feet. The Belgian is gaining slowly but steadily and her feet after just 3 weeks on this oil are almost healed in. I love it
I’ve been using this product for about a year and a half now. Notable shine up on my chestnut thoroughbred, his mane and tail has definitely filled out, and I would like to think it has also benefited his hooves but they have been a two year project with my wonderful farrier, and yes his toes are finally looking normal The only complaint is if you change pail sizes you need to buy (another!!) pump and if you forget to buy it with your order you get slapped with a steep shipping cost
My two horses receive your oil every day, as do my 4 shelties. I have some aged ones, and I think the oil helps them stay young. I will be needing to purchase more soon.
I don't recall where I first saw your ad, but with the number of older horses I have in my lesson program, and two in particular who were starting to show some signs of their age, I decided to try a gallon and see what I think. Also, we had just "rescued" a horse with a Body Score of 1 so I felt it would not hurt to see if we couldn't get improve his life. It did not take long to see the improvement in Angel, my full sized Paint, and Pearl my miniature horse, but the improvement in Patches, the rescue was unbelievable!!! All 3 horse's coats started to shed out and beautiful thick, shiny coats grew in their place. Angel's stiffness is gone and she doesn't look or act like the 30 year old mare that she is. Pearl has Cushing's and is being treated for it. Her coat is no longer dry and her skin isn't flaky either. I wish I could say more about Patches, but he slipped and fell, breaking his hip. The vet said nothing more could be done, so he was humanely euthanized. Several of our boarders noticed the improvement in my horses, and asked what I was doing differently. I told them about the product and they have begun purchasing Smart Earth Camelina Oil for their horses. Whether your horse is young or old, in perfect health, or not, this is product well worth considering and adding to your feeding regimen. You won't be disappointed. The customer service has been wonderful. More than once, as I have stumbled through the ordering process, the staff has been right there to assist. Thank you. Kathy Rusty Bar Ranch Roy, WA
Decided to give the oil a try with my horse instead of her being on pills. It has been doing the same thing the pills did which is great. Started using it for my dogs scratching and it took a few weeks but has helped a lot with this dry winter
We've been using this for a lot of years we think it works super give it to the dogs to
