That entirely depends on the dose you are feeding. The recommended dose for an average horse is 1 fl oz once or twice daily with feed. So the 1 gal container will last about 128 days if you feed 1 fl oz daily. The 1 gal jug will last the average horse 60+ days if you offer 1 fl oz twice daily.

Our product carries a caution that it should not be used by pregnant or lactating mares or horses with bleeding issues. Despite the fact that there is no evidence camelina oil creates harm or risk to lactating mares or horses with bleeding issues, because there are no long term, documented, studies to the contrary, these risk statements are mandatory.

There has not been any clinical research on horses fed camelina oil, to our knowledge. However, there are many articles on the health benefits of alpha-linolenic and other polyunsaturated fatty acids in both animals and humans. We do have a research summary of the apparent benefits of adding Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids of the type found in Camelina to the diet of horses. You absolutely can feed Camelina oil without contributing to weight gain. We would suggest feeding your horse 1 fl oz/day initially and increase/decrease the dosage based on your results.

Our product is absolutely safe for miniature horses. Because they are obviously a lot smaller than what our standard dose is meant to feed we suggest 1/2 fl oz total per day. You can adjust your dosage as you see fit to get the results you are looking for.

We suggest using a very small amount of oil the first time and slowly increase the amount. Make sure it’s evenly dispersed across his feed. You could also try soaking it. If you have any problems with those methods let us know and we can offer some more suggestions.

We contract our Camelina production to responsible conventional farmers. At present we do not have certified organic growers.

The oil is fine to consume after 2 years at 20C (70F) if unopened and stored in the dark, but not as fresh as it could be. It depends on whether it has been exposed to air and light too. As a general rule we say our oil is fine after 1 year if opened and at room temperature not kept in the dark. The peroxide value is an indication of oxidation stability. Our oil must have a pv of less than 5 when freshly crushed. This value increases as it oxidizes. A pv of >20 is not recommended. We consider long term storage is 2 years at 5C (40F) but at least 5 years if kept frozen. Hope this helps.

Our non-GMO cold-pressed Camelina oil is approved as a veterinary supplement for horses and for dogs. As a high omega oil it is processed in a food-grade facility and it has been sold to other buyers for human consumption. But we presently are not marketing it as such or selling it in the retail grocery store.
