How long will one jug last for one horse?

The recommended daily oral dose is 30-60ml's depending on the horse's needs. A 3.78L guy will last one horse 126 days at 30ml a day (one pump), or 63 days at 60ml a day (two pumps).

 How is Smart Earth Camelina Oil for Equine produced?  

Smart Earth Seeds contracts with great farmers on the Canadian prairies to produce the finest Camelina varieties from our own carefully developed germplasm. Camelina is a unique low-input dryland oilseed crop and is a high-yielding source of nutritionally important Omega fatty acids, delivered in a high anti-oxidant background. Our Camelina varieties provide excellent quality meal and oil for animal feed and for aquaculture. The oil profile is similar to flax in that it provides high-Omega oil but has greater oxidative stability than flax.

Can Smart Earth Camelina Oil for Equine replace my other supplements?

Smart Earth Camelina Oil Equine Supplement is designed to replace any oil you are using in the barn. Due to the unique Omega3/6 balance in Camelina oil you may be able to eliminate other supplements from your animal's diet. Please consult with your veterinarian before you try to eliminate veterinarian-recommended products.

Why is it so important to supplement your horse with Omega3 throughout the year?

Many horses today receive limited amounts of essential Omega3 fatty acids in their daily diet due to restricted grazing and seasonal changes. Omega3 fatty acids help support your horse’s immune function, help to maintain healthy joints and ligaments, support gastrointestinal function and help to maintain healthy skin/coat. Fresh grass contains ample Omega3’s but barn hay provides little or no Omega3.

Why is Smart Earth Camelina Oil for Equine better than other oils?

Horses have very limited access to Omega3’s apart from fresh pasture. Most other oils available on the market - as well as most commercial grains - are very high in Omega 6. Horses do require one Omega6 - linoleic acid. But products high in Omega6 can create imbalances. Our oil has a nearly perfect Omega 3/6 ratio (1.2-1.6:1 ratio of Omega3 to Omega6)  

Can I store Smart Earth Camelina Oil for Equine in the barn over the winter?

You may find the oil thickens in very cold temperatures but it does not affect the efficacy of the product. We recommend keeping your product in a protected area rather than exposing it to extreme cold.

What is the shelf life for Smart Earth Camelina Oil for Equine?

Our products are marked with a best before date, which is 2 years from date of crushing. The oil is best kept in a cool location, away from direct light.
